Hon. Bro. Dr. C. L. Roberts holds an important place in the early history of Alpha Alpha Chapter and in the broader story of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. The 1927 Forcean identifies Dr. Roberts as "Frater ex Oppidum," placing him among the Brothers associated with Alpha Alpha Chapter at Wilberforce University during the Chapter's formative period. His presence in the historical record reflects the important role experienced Brothers played in supporting the development of the undergraduate Chapter. While the student Brothers were establishing Alpha Alpha on campus, men such as Dr. Roberts represented continuity, guidance, and a connection to the larger Fraternity. Dr. Roberts' service to Phi Beta Sigma extended beyond Alpha Alpha Chapter. He served the Fraternity at the national level as a Vice President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. In 1934, his record of service was recognized with induction into the Distinguished Service Chapter as DSC Member #9. He entered the Distinguished Service Chapter alongside Hon. Bro. A. Langston Taylor, DSC #8, placing him among an extraordinary group of Brothers whose contributions helped shape the growth and direction of Phi Beta Sigma. The Distinguished Service Chapter represents one of the highest recognitions within the Fraternity, and Dr. Roberts' early induction stands as a testament to the significance of his service. His legacy is measured not simply by the offices he held or the honors he received, but by his demonstrated commitment to the ideals of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service. For Alpha Alpha Chapter, Dr. Roberts represents an important link between the Chapter's earliest years at Wilberforce University and the national leadership of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. His story reminds us that the strength of a Chapter is built not only by those whose names appear on a charter, but also by the Brothers who guide, support, encourage, and strengthen the men who carry the work forward. His service became history. His commitment became legacy. His legacy continues through the Brotherhood.
